As many of you know, I enjoy cycling and in particular Mountain Biking. This time I am actually getting on my road bike for a charity ride with 25000spins in March. I will be riding in the Victoria High country, throughout some of the area that has actually been burnt by the recent bushfires. The ride is planned to be around 380km, with over 4,000m of elevation across three days of riding with one of the highlights riding up Mt Buffalo on our second day.

25000spins is a non-profit program that matches adventures with a cause. I have chosen ADRA Australia as my charity. Due to the catastrophic bush fires that are devastating our beautiful country, ADRA Australia has agreed to direct all of the funds I raise to their Australian Bushfire Disaster Relief Project.

Since November, ADRA Australia has provided food, accommodation, water, generators, food for livestock and other items to people affected by the bushfires, and has supported those fighting the fires. I know there has been some controversy about donated funds getting to the people that really need it. Below you will find just a few examples of the many ways your donations to ADRA have been and will continue to help those who have been affected by the bush fires in a real and practical way.  If you would like to know more about ADRA Australia and the work they do you can visit their website at

I have committed to raising at least $1,250 for this important cause. Ideally I would like to raise $2,000 to help those who have been devastated by this tragedy.

I know some of you have probably already donated for the bushfires already, but if you can dig a little deeper again, I would greatly appreciate your financial support to help me surpass my targets.

Donations of $2 and over are tax deductible.

A few examples of the many ways ADRA is helping those affected by the bush fires.

ADRA Victor Harbor Op Shop, in collaboration with MP Rebekha Sharkie, distributed food vouchers to the firefighters and affected individuals on Kangaroo Island in South Australia. 27 generators were also delivered to Kangaroo Island where ADRA worked alongside Island Care and the Australian Defence Force to distribute the generators to those needing it most.

Albury Adventist Church members, with ADRA's help, coordinated the purchase and delivery of food and supplies to the Country Fire Association (CFA) volunteers in Burrowye for four days.

Families in Clifton Creek, Gelantiply, Buchan, Sarsfield, and Club Terrace have also received essentials such as water, groceries, hygiene packs, cleaning materials, solar energisers, steel posts, wire, insulators, generators and requested furniture.

Volunteers in Victoria sourced fencing to help emergency services contain freely roaming livestock. Access was also given to Cann River, where eggs, bread, meat, fruit, vegetables and generators were delivered. Volunteers in Sarsfield will attend a community meeting with other agencies to determine the next steps in the recovery process.

27 generators were delivered to Kangaroo Island in South Australia where ADRA worked alongside Island Care and the Australian Defence Force to distribute the generators to those needing it most.

On one property in Woodside South Australia, teams from Flight Centre and ADRA helped pull out burnt water lines and lay new ones as well as cutting off fire-damaged fruit to help the vines have the best chance of survival.

The above are just a few examples.  A lot more is happening around the country.
